As of June 30, 2022, cumulatively the College has distributed the entire $1,769,588 of student emergency grants allotted to the College from the U.S. Department of Education. The funds were distributed to 2,855 students prioritizing students who have demonstrated need.

Emergency Aid Disbursements Update
As of Sept. 30, 2021, the College has been allotted $1,769,588 of emergency grants from the U.S. Department of Education. No disbursements have been made from these funds. The College intends to distribute the funds during the next seven months, prioritizing students who have demonstrated need.

Emergency Aid Disbursements Update
As of June 30, 2021, the College has been allotted $1,769,588 of emergency grants from the U.S. Department of Education. This money will be distributed in the upcoming year to students who have demonstrated need.

Institutional Aid Update
The U.S. Department of Education awarded $1,769,587 in institutional aid to the College. As of June 30, 2021, the College fully expended these funds. The funds are reimbursing the College for lost revenue due to COVID-19-related disruption of instruction during the Spring 2020 semester along with reimbursing the College for the purchase of at-home COVID-19 tests for students returning to campus for the Spring 2021 semester. The College has incurred de minimis cost in its student outreach efforts. The College will draw the funds only after it distributes the student emergency aid.

Emergency Aid Disbursements Update
As of June 30, 2021, cumulatively the College has distributed the entire $695,510 of student emergency grants allotted to the College to 979 students who demonstrated need.

The College previously specified that eligibility in its program would require a valid FAFSA on file as a means to ensure Title IV eligibility. Eighty percent of 1,214 ISIRs were eligible for funding under the College’s approach as we focused on students with need. After three surveys to these students, the remaining amount was distributed to international, DACA, and undocumented students with need as determined by the CSS Profile.

The funds are reimbursing the College for lost revenue due to COVID-19-related disruption of instruction during the Spring 2020 semester.

As of Dec. 4, 2020, cumulatively the College has distributed the entire $695,510 of emergency grants allotted to the College to 872 students who have demonstrated need and have certified that they had incurred expenses related to the disruption of COVID-19 campus operations.

The College previously specified that eligibility in its program would require a valid FAFSA on file as a means to ensure Title IV eligibility. Eighty-nine percent of 1,346 ISIRs were eligible for funding under the College’s approach as we focused on students with need.

Lafayette College applied for its first 50 percent installment of CARES Act funding from the U.S. Department of Education (DOE) in the amount of $695,510. These funds are being provided by the federal government to directly support students facing urgent financial needs related to the COVID-19 pandemic and its disruption of campus operations. Eligible students will receive an email with further instructions.

On May 6, 2020 the College signed and returned its certification and agreement with the DOE, providing assurance that the institution will use no less than 50 percent of its total funds for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students. Federal guidelines require that the College disburse the funds to students who are eligible for Title IV financial aid programs. To be eligible for Lafayette’s first wave of CARES Act funding distribution, students must have been enrolled in the spring 2020 semester and submitted a valid Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the 2019-2020 academic year.

The College is providing awards to approximately 1,300 students who are Title IV eligible, as follows:

Approximately 300 students enrolled full time or part time for the spring term 2020 who are Title IV eligible and received a Federal Pell Grant will receive $800.
Approximately 1,000 students enrolled full time or part time for the spring 2020 term who are Title IV eligible and did not receive a Federal Pell Grant will receive $430.

Lafayette students interested in receiving this support must “self-certify” that they incurred expenses related to the disruption of campus operations caused by the COVID-19 crisis. An online certification link will be emailed automatically to students who completed the FAFSA.

The College’s program supports the DOE’s prioritization of students with financial need by designating Title IV-eligible students as a group, and by allocating $800 and $430 to Pell and non-Pell students, respectively. This represents the College’s prioritization of Pell-eligible students regarding expenses incurred as a result of the disruption of campus operations.

This program is supported entirely by federal funds. Federal guidelines specifically exclude international and DACA/undocumented students from receiving emergency financial grants funded with CARES money.

Through June 18, 2020, $220,330 in funding was disbursed to 373 students.

Program Overview
The College is required to publish on its website 30 days after receiving CARES grant funding, and every 45 days thereafter. This report is posted earlier than required but contains updated information. This report is being periodically updated and will be finalized on each 45-day mark.

On May 6, 2020, the College signed and returned a certification and agreement to participate in the CARES act emergency relief funding provided by the Department of Education in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. As part of this agreement, the College will distribute at least 50% of this funding to students directly as emergency relief grants for a total amount of at least $695,510; a similar amount will become available to the College for expenses incurred by the College due to Covid-19. The Department of Education obligated funds on May 18, 2020.

Based on the criteria provided by the Department of Education, the College determined that 1,200 students were Title IV eligible to apply for these grants as of June 16, 2020. The student count included 304 students who received Pell Grants and 896 students who did not receive Pell Grants. Eligibility in the College’s program was calculated based on students who have a valid FAFSA on file. While there may be others that could qualify, the current guidance from the Department of Education requiring Title IV eligibility of recipients means the FAFSA is the only current practical method of determining eligibility.

As noted, Pell students are to receive $800 and non-Pell students are to receive $430; these amounts representing the College’s estimate of costs incurred by students related to transportation, internet, computer and technology support, housing and food costs, health care, childcare among other costs due to the COVID-19 campus disruption and the College’s prioritization of students in need.

In accordance with its program design, students who completed the 2019-20 FAFSA and were enrolled in the Spring 2020 term, were emailed a link to “self-certify” that they incurred expenses related to the disruption of campus operations caused by the COVID-19 crisis.

Emergency Aid Disbursements
As of June 29, 2020, cumulatively the College distributed $464,840 of emergency grants to 853 students who have demonstrated need and have certified that they had incurred expenses related to the disruption of COVID-19 campus operations. For non-disbursed monies, the College will release additional funds to continuing students for the fall semester. We expect the funds to be fully spent with the fall disbursement.

Subsequently, eligible students received the following email on May 26, 2020.

This email contains the self-certification survey that must be submitted prior to your receiving CARES Act Funding. This requirement was part of last week’s campus-wide announcement. The deadline to complete this survey is June 7, 2020. Funds will start being disbursed by the Student Accounts division the week of June 15, 2020.
